Today we spray painted!
The teenage room is complete!
We all worked together to make an honest piece of work.
It looks amazing and is a real reflection of all the people that made this possible. ‘Inspired youth’ totally describes what this project is all about.
Shout out to Kieth, Kritikal, Zoe, Joy and Gemma!
Great day today,
We have been doing graffiti art on the shed and walls. I spray painted the green and yellow on the shed and the dark area on the wall. I enjoyed the pizza and spray painting.
Today I painted the shed and a wall at Hamilton House. We used spay paints. On the wall I spay painted the girl sat on the floor in the nighttime scene. I am enjoying getting messy and dancing around!!!
The project is really coming together, we worked on the teen room and shed today! It worked really well when we split of into groups and worked on different parts of the wall with the artists. I really enjoyed it and I am very pleased with the result!
Today we have been spray painting on the walls in room 7. Its been awesome because we have been allowed to take part in painting it.
This was the session that all the groups hard work finally started to come to fruition. All the brainstorming and ideas development had helped the team create some fantastic visuals. The artists GX2 and CBLOXX came back to the project prepared for a day of painting and full of passion with all the tools and paint needed for the job. This was the day the group’s ideas would start to come to life!!
Before we got going we had a group discussion about safety and talked about everyone should behave. They wrote a new contract of respect and everyone signed up to say they agreed to stay safe and have fun! It was important that we had to wear protective masks to cover our mouths when painting and it was agreed we needed to have a professional attitude when using the aerosols. The group all agreed and it was time to set to work on the mural’s…
While the group were discussing the contract of respect the artists used projectors to outline the mural onto the wall ready for the group to paint.
After the artists had reminded the group about keeping safe with the paint CBLOXX showed the group some spray techniques and how to use the paint effectively. We would start the arts explosion in the teenager room upstairs.
There was a really positive creative atmosphere and everyone was excited about getting to work on the mural.
The group were really focused and took a really professional approach to the work. It was fun working with the artists and the group learnt loads of new skills and worked very well as a team. They were starting to grow in confidence and it was great to see them being creative!!! Everyone got involved…
The painting started to slowly come to life.
It was great seeing the ideas coming alive!!! We even got out the artwork from the previous session to remind ourselves of the ideas we had for colours.
Next GX2 took some of the group into the garden to start work on the shed! She reminded them of the concept; rainbow rain with squirrels holding umbrellas!! CBLOXX stayed upstairs to work on the mural in the teenager room.
First GX2 Gemma showed the group the techniques they would need to create the rain effect. They listened carefully…
But then it was time to unleash the colours…
Keep following the blog for updates and more pictures of the transformation!!!
So far on the arts4care project we have written up a contract of respect, explored all the different rooms, created a character, spoken to the artists, ‘stacked amo’ (aka a bank of words) and heard KRITIKAL rap.
I have enjoyed the session on rapping and song writing the most so far because I really like music and song writing.
The wall mural designs are amazing I wouldnt change anything about them!
I am very much looking forward to painting our mural now!!!
The pre-prodution work us about things we NEED to consider when creating something from scratch. From the birth we have seen the others quirky personalities, Liams rapping and work (In which he gave us the techniques to make quality rap/poem). As well, the artists help us to discover the awesome world of street art. I looking forward to next stage where we paint!
I find it pretty moving how all our views are accounted for, and how we have the opportunity to meet so many inspiring people (Shout out to Liam aka Kritikal, Kev and Zoe for making this possible!)
Making memories as we speak. Peace,
Amy-Jo Mook! 🙂
Arts4care is a project all about giving young people in care a chance to have their say about the care experience. Through meaningful positive expression using arts and film the young people will first transform Hamilton House before going on to make a film which they will shape.
In the first session we started to get to know each other and the group created a contract of respect which consisted of boundaries they set for the group. It was important to set guidelines and involve the group in shaping them in order to have a focused and professional approach to the work we would be doing together.
Before we got started we looked at the #music4care music video to show the group some of Inspired Youths previous work and how experiences shared through art and media can be really powerful.
We even had a special guest as Izzy who was one of the stars of the video came to talk to the group about how we made the video and the impact it had been making.
Once we had established what the project was all about we started to explore the rooms in Hamilton House and discussed who used them, what they were used for and what experiences and emotions where associated with them. This would help us better understand the use of the building and help shape the groups ideas about how best to use art to transform Hamilton House.
